I like this method. It also makes sure that if someone says "I'll take such-and-such" and sits on it, then someone else will still be looking at the code. If we have enough volunteers, I'd suggest everything get gone over by at least two (or more) people.

Also, with a seperate mailling list for each major chunk, those who are involved can discuss issues among themselves which one person is unsure of, so that you don't get three different solutions to the same bug.
