Just want to emphasize how important that is. From what I recall of it (user level ppp, that is) anyone can modify routing tables if they can use PPP. So all someone needs is root a directly connected box (be it ethernet or a dialup ppp), route interesting traffic to there, then sniff all sorts of stuff from it.
