[Hipsec-rg] Opportunistic Mode with TCP Option
A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
directories.
Title : Establishing Host Identity Protocol
Opportunistic Mode with TCP Option
Author(s) : J. Lindqvist
Filename : draft-lindqvist-hip-opportunistic-01.txt
Pages : 13
Date : 2006-3-6
This document specifies an alternative opportunistic mode for the
Host Identity Protocol (HIP). The opportunistic mode is initialized
by adding a 128 bit Host Identity Tag (HIT) as a TCP option to a TCP
SYN packet. The mode allows a TCP connection to be established
directly without a timeout delay in the case the peer does not
support HIP.

The draft was simplified by removing the piggybacking alternative. Also,
an open issues section was added. A student has started to implement this
approach in the InfraHIP project at TKK.
