Graphical User Interface (GUI) needed to easily configure Apache (httpd.conf)

  • Additional Comments From webmaster33@bigfoot.com 2002-11-30 09:21 ------- As long Apache 2.0 Windows version has a GUI interface to start/stop Apache service, and it really belongs to Apache 2.0 project, then it is reasoned to suggest GUI enhancements here on Bugzilla.

I'm not C programmer, so I can not contribute in the project, just an Apache user. As you say, gui.apache.org is quite out of date. The Apache developers should at least coordinate the Apache GUI projects, but would be better to implement the GUI configuration editor into the Apache Monitor itself! Commanche 3.x GUI was not really successful (at least for me). The DST Apache Configuration Editor (DSTACE) v1.1 is closer to the desired user friendly GUI. ( http://www.darkphoton.com/darkstar/DSTACE/index.html )

I will contact dev@httpd.apache.org list, but the GUI efforts should be coordinated here and since naygoya.apache.org/bugzilla HAS the Enhancement option, this suggestion/enhancement report has a good reason to be posted here in Bugzilla.

I do not feel that gui.apache.org is a real project, but rather a link collection, which lists the efforts what was ever done for an Apache GUI goal, and additionally it is really outdated. Also it is a good idea to refresh the gui.apache.org. My opinion is that GUI efforts really belongs to Bugzilla & core Apache 2.0 developments.

Remember, MS loses market share because it has security holes. But sometime they will correct them... Once they corrected security holes, they will be able to increase their market share again. And if Apache GUI effors will be not refreshed, MS would have chance to also win the webserver war, too :-(

This is not what we want. Will Rowe, you should really think about what I wrote. Please consider Reopening this enhancement bug, and make it as starting point to coordinate GUI efforts. Or start a new Component named "GUI" or "User Interface" for Apache httpd-2.0, and move this enhancement bug there.
