In fact a Telco in Eastern Canada just made the switch to PPPoE only 3 months ago.

For movies and whatever, it is quite simple to have web level sign-ins to
get services. No need to have it going through different pppoe sessions. That is not a problem to make.

If you mean that you have "mother" (the loop) privider in the telephone company and then secondary for services (IP, movies, whatver), who is currently doing that?
