Most "Cisco" products support PPPoE Termination. The key to how many concurrent sessions *any* solution can support is based on two (2) factors:

  • CPU Speed (power)
  • Memory

Some cisco known termination capabilites:

3xxx ~ 200 sessions
7200 ~ 1500
6400 (fully loaded) - 8000
Redback SMS 500 - 1500

Also, the average cost "per session" for Cisco or Redback equipment averages about $12 per session/subscriber.

This is why we have built our "ServPoET" (http://www.finepoint.com) PPPoE termination equipment on standard x86 equipment. Bottomline, its more powerful and can be stuff'd with a Gig or 2 of RAM:

ServPoET BMS 200 - 750
ServPoET BMS 500 - 2000
ServPoET BMS 1000 - 36,000

All of which fall around $2.00 per session/subscriber...
