Re: [Clamav-users] Switching from clamscan to clamdscan

From: David Boltz <dboltz(at)cornwall.ca>

Thank you for the information. I have given it a try and setup the clamd.conf file to connect to the already existing spf-milter. I then changed the clamav-wrapper to use clamdscan instead of clamscan. I then restarted MailScanner and it seems to be ok because if I run "top -d1 | grep clam" I see that calmav-wrapper and clamdscan is being called. The only problem I see is that if I go to MailWatch and check the clamav status I get a bunch of warnings. followed by the information I want. It appears that this is caused by the clamav-wrapper file but I'm not sure why. Any ideas?

Here is that output.

The newest version of MailScanner has native clamd support, so if you upgrade MailScanner, you can switch from clamscan to clamd support, and your performance should be very fast (faster than clamscan ever was).

The newest MailScanner, IIRC, interfaces directly to clamd, without clamdscan. But I'm not 100% sure of that. In any case, it seems to work well, and is faster than clamscan for sure.

No, you don't need to run clamav-milter, since the new MailScanner has native support for clamd. You can still use the spf-milter.

  1. Upgrade MailScanner if needed.
  2. Setup clamd and start it running.
  3. Tell MailScanner to use clamd instead of clamav/clamscan.
