Bug#433560: will not boot
From: john hines <coconetjohn(at)yahoo.com>
Date: Tue Jul 17 2007 - 18:27:30 EDT
Boot method: CD
Machine: Toshiba Satellite A70
Output of lspci -nn and lspci -vnn: ??
Base System Installation Checklist:
Initial boot: [O] CD Detect network card: [E] Configure network: [ ] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Install base system: [O] Clock/timezone setup: [ ] User/password setup: [ ] Install tasks: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Overall install: [E] Comments/Problems:This is my ~20th attempt to install Debian. This is my best result.
"Segmentation fault
Generally, the install seems good(I am not yet concerned about networks), though there seems to be an instability in that not all of my attempts have been identical. Sometimes I do not see the free space in the partitioning options, and I vaguely remember being asked for a time zone in one of the attempts. I am determined to leave the MS world, and if I am advised to buy another Linux CD, I will. However, I have so far paid $ for 5 distros(2 of them Debian) and the only one to work so far is DSL on a mini CD. Please advise. Be a better Globetrotter.
