Okay, I have added that information into the Subject line, with the intention to make it easier to find it back.

To me it sounds alike a udev thingy.
(udev is something I known about, but not enough to explain.)

My advice is to search in the udev corner, a starting point could be
  find /etc/udev -type f | xargs grep 1044:a501 in the installed system.

Usaully would that be point where I tell people to buy hardware that does have GNU/Linux support, even if it means to go to a computershop in the next town.

Your 1044:a501 does work with GNU/Linux, as you say:

so spend some more time on the current hardware ...
