OK. On that basis I have tried that fix (as I was testing something else anyway) and committed it.

However, I am still very disappointed that a regression BR I filed a whole month ago had still not been picked up by _anybody_. AFAIK you still follow d-boot and in the BR I even mentioned your commits as the probable cause. It would not have taken that much time to keep a lookout for partman BRs...

In general I think people working on D-I tend to rely way too much on others to do test installs and fix regressions...
