Comments/Problems:

Installation goal has been a dual boot SATA RAID0 machine as playground for experimental software (i. e. Windows Vista ;-) and Lenny for real desktop work. I've followed the instructions of the debian installer SATA RAID wiki (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/SataRaid).

Problem: The installer fails installing a boot loader. Solution: The grub package from sid has to be installed in a shell:

chroot /target
mount -t proc none /proc
echo deb http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/debian/ sid main
>> /etc/apt/sources.lst

apt-get update
apt-get -t sid install grub

Don't forget to remove sid from /etc/apt/sources.lst afterwards. On my box Lenny's grub is miscounting partitions when calling update-grub. Could be fixed manually by editing menu.lst, but the next kernel update could result in a non bootable system.

Problem: grub yields errors after calling "setup (hd0)" from grub command line
Solution: link -s /boot /boot/boot

Problem: dmesg and syslog flooded by "attempt to access beyond end of device" messages.
Solution: Advice udev and hal to ignore the partition table found on the first disk.

Do you need more help?X

Linux tries to reach the end of the partition as defined in the partition table found on the first physical disk, but this table belongs to the whole RAID.

Create /etc/hal/fdi/preprobe/000dmraid.fd with contents

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
 <device>
  <match key="scsi.model" string="SAMSUNG HD753LJ">    <merge key="info.ignore" type="bool">true</merge>   </match>
 </device>
</deviceinfo>

create /etc/udev/rules.d/000_dmraid.rules with

KERNEL=="sda1", OPTIONS+="ignore_device"
KERNEL=="sda2", OPTIONS+="ignore_device"
KERNEL=="sda3", OPTIONS+="ignore_device"

and do an "update-initramfs -u".

Of course, the file contents has to be adjusted to your local circumstances.

Google for <grub dmraid ignore_device> for more details.

Problem: /dev/rtc timeout on settig system time during boot up Solution: Append "--directisa" to HWCLOCKPARS in both hwclock.sh and hwclockfirst.sh

Can we help you?X

Problem: Alsa complains an unknown device ALC882 at boot time. Solution: echo "options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig"
>> /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

You've to adjust model to your hardware.

Problem: Some (not all) sound applications yields a crackling audio output.

No solution so far. Hints found in the web regarding snd-hda-intel options like position_fix=1/2 or enamble_msi=1 didn't help.
