This is another post about Metalink, a format used by download programs to get mirror information and checksums for automated use. A number of projects use Metalink, like OpenOffice.org, openSUSE, cURL, and many other distributions. Mirrors can have details like their location listed, allowing downloads to be filtered by location to use local mirrors which is more efficient. Checksums are used to automatically verify files, along with repair information to fix corrupted files already downloaded and downloads in progress. There's more info on the various clients (some for every platform) at http://wiki.debian.org/Metalink aria2 is a good command line client (apt-get install aria2). DownThemAll! is a Firefox extension that works well - http://www.downthemall.net/ Metalinks for individual Debian ISOs are at http://download.packages.ro/metalink/debian/ with all ISOs for an architecture listed in a single .metalink are at http://download.packages.ro/metalink/debian/collections/ -- -- This archive was generated by hypermail 2.1.8 : Thu Aug 09 2007 - 19:05:57 EDT |
