Perhaps you should try using bittorrent instead:

http://gemmei.acc.umu.se/debian-cd/4.0_r3/i386/bt-dvd/debian-update-4.0r3-i386-DVD-1.iso.torrent

You will need a bittorrent client[1], but at least if it stops for some reason, you can start it again, and it will eventually get the whole image for you.
