Amazing. I have exactly the same problem although I'm using a i686 kernel: Linux debian 2.6.18-4-486 #1 Wed May 9 22:23:40 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

I fitted 2Gb just a couple of days ago and this is what free tells me:

             total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:        906792     897804       8988          0      31040     651812
-/+ buffers/cache:     214952     691840
Swap:      1461872        104    1461768

So could anybody tell me what's wrong?
