Hey,
have you changed your kernel recently? Some keys are handled by kernel itself. In my case (Compaq laptop, you can find my posts here) it was question of inserting some module to control it (video or something, I can't remember at the moment).
Well, actually you say that it stopped working after update - can you rollback your changes and test?
