I am not sure if it's because of the email (line wrapping)... Anyway, a typical line should look like :

deb ftp://ftp.mx.kernel.org/debian/ sarge main contrib

I guess your file should be
deb ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ sarge main deb-src ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ sarge main deb ftp://ftp.mx.debian.org/debian/ sarge main deb-src ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sarge main deb http://security.debian.org/ sarge/updates main

##NOTE: below are TWO lines. correct wrapping if needed. deb http://www.backports.org/debian/ sarge-backports main contrib non-free deb-src http://www.backports.org/debian/ sarge-backports main contrib non-free ## NOTE END Franklin
