cooling fans

Have been following this thread with some interest as I never hear a fan running on my laptop.
If I look at /proc/acpi, all of the folders have nothing in them. If I run the acpitool it responds: thermal zone 1 o.k., 48c So my question is should I do anything or just let it be? Yea, I know this is a real noob question, but am curious.
