I do not agree, i. e. Googlearth it at least 10 times faster with the fglrx driver.

I finally found the solution. I'm running kernel 2.6.23 because 2.6.20 to 2.6.22 does not recognize my battery (a well known bug). I've jsut booted with the Debian kernel 2.6.22 and 3D apps run well with fglrx.
