I noticed in the meanwhile that /var/cache was full. After resolving this, and running an aptitude dist-upgrade again, my problem is solved :-)

There is a psuedo-package in Debian called WNPP and you file a special bug called an ITP or RFP. ITP is intent to package, meaning that you are going to do it. RFP is request for package, meaning you want someone else to do it. As usual, most packages require additional libraries or software to work, so you may need to add a few more 'dependencies' and file a few more RFP or ITP bugs. You can also look for mentors.debian.net for some help with your packageing effort.

Many things in plain sight are overlooked or skimmed over, thats how I missed it. Some folks never have ever read all the man pages on their system or all the docs in /usr/share/docs. I don't know why that doesn't show up in the config but it is in a list box under globals and security options and it always was "yes". That was set so with the dpkg-config at the beginning. Hugo

It can definitely be a little overwhelming. The thing to remember is that apt-cache search can use regex's so brush up on those to get better information from it. or do what I do 'cus I'm too lazy to properly learn regexs (though I'm getting there, Florian puts us all to shame) and grep the heck out of the output.
