Do you need help?X

I'm getting in late in this thread, but the "windows proxy" thing caught=20 my eye (or is it "caught my ear"? never mind...)

Most unix/linux tools are quite happy to work behind a standard HTTP=20 proxy. But windows IIS proxy is *NOT* a standard proxy when it requires=20 NTLM authentication - weirdy stuff...

But epiphany understands NTLM, and I presume that TortoiseSVN does too. =20 If you gave them your Windows "active directory" (ldap for you and me)=20 password, that would be a clue.

If the proxy is an NTLM-demanding windows proxy, then I'd expect other=20 tools *not* to work too, e.g.:

    $ wget http://www.google.com

would fail because of the proxy. Even:

    $ http_proxy=3Dhttp://172.1.2.3:80 wget --proxy-user yourname --proxy-= password=3Dyourpassword http://www.google.com

would fail too with a message to the effect "not allowed".

Do you need more help?X

If you *do* have one of these nasty NTLM proxies, you can still use it=20 by adding your own proxy "in front of" it (which usually means locally) =20 nd letting your applications use that as a proxy. That's what the=20 ntlmaps package does...

Hope this helps

I saw it on slashdot, and thought about trying it. I have used Google Deskt= op=20
on my WinXP box, and I have to say, I do not like that deskbar thing, or=20 the 'floating taskbar' whatever-you-call it. I do, however enjoy desktop=20 search.

But, Kerry/Beagle are a perfect desktop search component for Linux. And the= re=20
is even, for Gnome users, the deskbar applet to make it like Mac OSX=20 Spotlight and the Google taskbar search.=20

One advantage/feature of Google Desktop is that it also indexes Gmail=20 messages. But I use Kmail with Gmail, so Beagle/Kerry does that, too. I gue= ss=20
if you just use Gmail web mail this would be helpful. I just don't have the= =20
need.

Hello Miguel!

I hotplugged my pen drive to compare kernel messages. It looks like your usb_storage module is not loaded or not working. Here is a bit=20 of my dmesg:

Hi,

Google has a Debian version of its desktop: http://desktop.google.com/linux/download.html

Installing it on my Sid box with fvwm windowmanager and iceweasel browser does exactly nothing: no messages, nothing. So I uninstalled it again.

Did anybody try it?

I tried both.

It asked for username and password and it worked like a charm without further configuration.

I dont know the way that you use for your backup. If you create an iso file before burning it you could use checksums to compare the data on your disk and the data on your DVD. Simply mount that iso, create a file with md5sum which contains a sum for every file inside the iso. Than burn your backup and compare the disk's content with your checksum file.
