Having received 2 identical hard drives, and trying to be a bit
paranoid, I am trying to setup a system with the following
characteristics:
/dev/hda1 + /dev/hdc1 -> RAID1 --> /boot /dev/hda2 + /dev/hdc2 -> RAID1 + crypto + LVM -> / + swap + reserve
I am using the following CD:

Installing as usual the Installer was able to determine and set up my

Seems to be working for me. I have tried it just now. Thanks for your email.
I have been desperately waiting for their linux version. I wonder how much
space it takes for indexing....

My rule of thumb for this kind of questions is that "if the package's name
does not ring a bell, you dont need it". The beauty of Debian is that,
installing it at a later time (if you find that necessary) is a breeze. It
might not be the case if you are running sid though! But if you are running
sid, I assume you know what you are doing...

Sorry if I'm ignorant but,
How is this better/different than Beagle or any of the other

Seems to be this issue:
#429753 [FIXED 2007-10]: texlive-commong post-install action fails, blocking tex/latex install
#425270 [FIXED texlive-base 2007-7]: texlive-common: still calling tetex-bin-upgrade
One of the follow-ups of #429753 suggests that it is enough to comment
out line 118 in the post-installation script. (tetex-bin-upgrade is
obsolete for Lenny; it only exists in the Etch version the tex-common
package.) If that is the case then it should also be possible to provide
a symlink to /bin/true as a "fake" tetex-bin-upgrade command:
ln -s /bin/true /usr/share/tex-common/tetex-bin-upgrade
dpkg --configure texlive-common
rm -i /usr/share/tex-common/tetex-bin-upgrade
aptitude install -f
(You can of course also use apt-get for the last step if you prefer.)
If you want to play it safe then you can simply wait for texlive-common
2007-10 to come to Lenny. This might still take a while, though:

If Ubuntu detects it correctly, you can boot an Ubuntu live CD and
install Debian using a chroot install. The chroot install is explained
in the install manual.

personally I feel beagle is as "fast and efficient" as google-desktop. i
used google-desktop(when i was windows user) before. after switching to
Linux, i use beagle. and to me both are same. i don't want to use
google-desktop because, when there are open-source/free alternatives
present I always go for it. in this case beagle.

My rule of thumb:
1. install 'deborphan' package.
2. run it.
3. you can safely remove the packages listed by deborphan.
It never let me down.

Actually I did not know that there are open source alternatives available
for google-desktop-search. Only upon reading Matthew Poer's email, I came
to know that there is such a thing called beagle. Anyway, I am trying it
out now and hope it works. I also prefer open source alternatives to closed
source software as long as they efficiently perform the job and provide all
the features.

I've seen a few threads where some folks have had trouble installing
live tex.
What is the current status of this under Etch?
Is the recommended procedure to remove tetex first?
Or can they coexist?
I use Synaptic mainly.
Thanks for any help.
