Ensure that the relevant icon package is installed. My guess is that
package could have been removed in the process. You don't mention
which desktop manager it is, but I am guessing you can find the KDE,
GNOME icon packages.

Thanks, Jonathan. I decided to try the k7 image after learning that it
existed. I did a little googling and determined that it would be a
little more appropriate. I thought that it might fix an issue I had with
the previous kernel (2.6.12-686) where only half of my memory was
recognized...and it did. Maybe it wasn't the k7 image that fixed
it...instead it could have just been the newer kernel. I'll give the
2.6.18-4-686 image a try if nothing pans out here.
Thanks again,
Mike

Hello,
I'm new to debian and Im using etch.
I've made some changes on the /etc/network/interfaces and was
hopping that "/etc/inid.d/networking restart" would apply the changes.
Big mistake. The interfaces went down and didnt got up.
First I thought I made some mistake, but after checking the
configuration and even restarted the server, the conf was correct.
After I restarted the server, the new config was aplied. So I tried
"/etc/inid.d/networking restart" without any change and the result was
the same: The interfaces went down and didnt got up.
Shouldnt "/etc/inid.d/networking restart", ifdown and ifup all the
interfaces?
I took a look on the /etc/inid.d/networking script and noticed that
the "ifup -a" wouldnt ifup the interfaces.
So, "ifup -a" doesnt work, but ifup eth0 works just fine.
Am I doing anything wrong? Am I missing anything?
Thanks in advance
Jaime

Hi,
There is this page:
http://www.ssp.gob.mx/CFPWeb/portals/CFP.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=contenido3&nodePath=/BEA%20Repository/PF/Contenidos/Convocatoria/documentacion&titulo=DOCUMENTACI%C3%93N
Most of the relevant info is hidden in a scroll bar, so just printing
the page won't do.
So I selected all, copied and pasted into a txt file.
Printing that and looking at the .ps file with gv I noticed that still
relevant info was cut off at the end of the lines.
So I edited the text file to fold the lines at the right places.
That printed OK.
That seems like a lot of work. Everybody looking at that page will have
the M$ browser, how do they print that page?

When I first started with interfaces I had the exact same problem. In
my case my server was remote and I was doing this via SSH so as soon
as I executed /etc/inid.d/networking restart the ssh connection is
killed and all further access is gone. The best was to do this in my
experience is to simply ifup an interface.
ifup allows you to startup an interface without restarting the whole
networking process which is critical if you aren't literally in front
of the machine.
By doing an ifup eth0:0 (as an example) to start up your new interface
you'll also see if there are any problems related to the changes you
made to the interfaces file.

computer wiht AMD process if everything is fine except when i try to boot
the box without the vga adapter plugged as in this case computer hangs (even
message uncompressing linux kernel is not displayed).
Please tell me what should be done (what kernel argument should be supplied
so that it boots without vga adapter /monitor cable).
