Ahhh. So it is related to xv maybe. I'll give it a whirl. Don't have a
second screen at the moment.

Maybe, but it would be better to get accelrated video on both outputs.
Windows manages to do this somehow (although you tend not to be able to
drag a video between windows once it's started.)
The hassle is with different sizes of screens. Sure, you can drag the
gnome panel around so it's where you want, but if you're projecting on to
a narrower resolution than the laptop panel, the location of launchers
and other stuff in the panel gets screwed up when it gets shifted to the
external screen. Plus, during presentations, I'd rather be certain that
the primary display where random windows might appear was not the one
being projected to everyone...
Thanks for your help.

How diligently did you look for a better solution? What were your

us that you are serious instead of a whiney Windows escapee.

When I select and copy text from a browser and paste it into a text
editor, all the apostrophes and dashes come out as question marks or
weird things like "\u2019".
What's the fix for this irritating behavior, please?
'env' shows that 'LANG=en_US'.

I couldn't see any videos (blue screen). This is how I found that=20

Any of you use newsreaders from the commandline. I'm using an old laptop with

pain and slow process. Besides, nothing beats the commandline.
Any good recommendations?

Hey guys,
I've been using wterm and it seems to fit the bill for a lightweight and fast
terminal emulator. However, whenever I use MidnightCommander or aptitude, wterm
can't seem to display the fonts properly. There are characters that are not
shown properly and just appear as white boxes. MC and Aptitude work fine with
xterm however.
Any ideas? I was thinking changing the fontset might do the trick but can't seem
to figure out how to do it.
Thanks,
Amit

Can you load the firmware_class module? The ipw2100 module seems to
depend on it now to load the firmware:
$ lsmod | grep ipw2100
ipw2100 117988 0
ieee80211 31432 1 ipw2100
firmware_class 9728 2 pcmcia,ipw2100
I am using Debian Sid, i386, kernel 2.6.22 compiled from Debian sources.
I have the exact same lspci output for my Intel wireless card and it
works without problems for me. I do use udev, though. (version 0.113-3)

Please, could you make constructive answers? I know that things can
break. But they are ways to work around them (have you heard of fault
tolerance?). I've reported the problem. The bug was tagged as wontfix
because the maintainer of the package doesn't care that things can
break in other packages and prefers to return with an exit status of 0
even if the program failed (which is against what an exit status is
meant for).

You are getting ridiculous. FYI, I don't use Windows and have never
used Windows. If you don't have constructive remarks, please shut up.

Subject: Installing xorg without all those video drivers
Message-ID: <f96q7q$j5m$1@sea.gmane.org>
I'd like to install xorg, but only with the video drivers that I need. I'm
doing a net install.
A query on the Debian IRC yielded "painfully, without using the meta package
that pulls them in".
Maybe there's a HOWTO somewhere out there that somebody can direct me to.

slrn. Why? Because it also finds private newsgroups on servers as well
as the public newsgroups. Others I've tried can't do that. tin fails
here which surprised me.

I might be wrong but I think that the precompiled kernel module for
ipw2200 an ipw3945 has not hit unstable as yet. The latest kernel module
available is for 2.6.21-2.
Can't check right (at work) now but a search for ipw2200 should give you
results. In this case the options remain to either install
linux-image-2.6.21-2 or compile the module for 2.6.22 from source.

Hello,
my box: acer aspire 51O2wlmi (amd64)
dist: Debian unstable (gnome metacity)
aticonfig --initial :
Uninitialised file found, configuring.
Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Saved back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original-1
*** glibc detected *** aticonfig: munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer: 0x00007f=
ff29170f8a ***
=2E.......
I know that there is a problem with the driver ATI and linux, but atconfig =
--initial=20
remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf (and save it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original-1)
and, witout /etc/X11/xorg.conf, startx launches xwindow like charm.=20
What have I missing ?
