Theres always the option of disabling it all together.

update-rc.d -f exim4 remove

But, as others have said, its good to have a MTA running for notifications= =20
like cron, logcheck and others to go out. I would possibley install=20 exim4-daemon-light, set delivery to local only, check to make sure your=20 hostname is in /etc/hosts and set hosts in /etc/nsswitch.conf to: hosts:=20 files dns

I recommend installing from http://www.backports.org/

Then configure sudo to allow your normal user account to start freshclam.

I am not sure which package removal caused this. I was doing sth cleaning the packages that is not what I want, like Openoffice, which will remove some kind of gnome tools as I saw during the removal.

There is nothing output for this command, I guess the package has been uninstalled. I am to install the packages that has been marked as deinstall, to see what will happen Thank you guys! really appreciated! --

I don&#39;t know if there is <br>&gt; something wrong potentially with the hardware or not.<br><br>To rule out hardware problems, test your system with Knoppix or another<br>suitable live CD.<br><br>My guess is that you accidentally uninstalled one of the packages that <br>handles the keyboard setup.
