OK guys,
the "problem" is solved and my Debian belief is recovered to the=20
previous very hi level ;o)
My Web-developers have created their own .../cgi-bin/ directory which=20
will be used in the Apache configuration insted of the standard=20
/usr/lib/cgi-bin/ ... and have copied (!!!) the binary "htsearch" in it.=20
It is clear, that upgrading the htdig package the local copy of=20
"htsearch" wasn't updated at all.
SOLUTION is: "ln -s /usr/lib/cgi-bin/htsearch /local-path/cgi-bin/htsearc=

In my case it's because it's because I have no idea what format

Hi to all debian users,
this is my first post on this list.
I'm having this problem with gparted (Debian lenny):
I launch it with:
sudo gparted
then I can see:
sds@santefisi ~> ps -e -o user,uid,euid,cmd | grep g[p]arted
root 0 0 gparted
but I get a window with this message just at gparted startup:
Cannot mount volume.
Error org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy.
Details ->
ha-storage-fixed-mount refused uid 1000
1000 is the uid of my account.
then I can't perform resize operations on the various partitions.
Any hint?
Thanks in advance.

No, why should it not be possible to manually login? As I mentioned,
when I disable PAM, and enable password authentication and empty
passwords, then I *can* login that way and nxserver starts and waits
for me to enter commands.

Hello,
I'm really having trouble getting my head around udev and udev rules for removeable USB devices. When I plug in my USB stick, it automounts under /media/sda1. What I don't like is that I have to "su" to write to the stick and to unmount it again, so this automounting is pretty useless. I've tried to decipher the files under /etc/udev to find the rule that actually mounts stuff, but grepping for "mount" just shows me some unmounting detail in a file called "hal.rules".
What I'd like is:
1. Automounting USB mass storage devices under some unique name determined
by the label of the partition
2. Write access and unmounting by normal user.
I've seen this work transparently under Gnome and KDE, but I use fvwm or no X at all so that's no option for me.
Thanks

Here we have the source of some of the confusion. He's already specfied
odt _and_ some non-textual data. This implies something other than
simply some italics.
Since we don't know what type of non-text data, we don't know if it
needs versioning too or how to do it. We've already determined that we
don't know how to version odt.
So: if versioning isn't required, then what is the point of this thread?
If versioning is required, then odt isn't a possibility and people have
recommended LaTex as a suitable alternative that can incorporate
"non-text data" if that means graphics or e.g. formulae.
The only other solution to the versioning of something that you can't
diff would be a full-fledged database with full logging. Check out the
most recent version, edit it, then post it back as a new record. Since
these are files, they'd be 'huge' items in the database.
I don't know. I've never used Word or OO. Prior to LaTex it was lout;
both text markup. Prior to that it was WordPerfect on OS/2 that did its
own versioning, including graphics (since they were vector graphics, the
vertices were what was stored).

Since crypto and LVM would sit over RAID, its probably easiest to
reinstall.

Why do you want to install old-stable?
Have you checked the debian-CD ftpsite? See the debian web page.

I've never had a problem; I've never used automount.
What type of filesystem is on the USB and who created it? If root
created an ext2, then it belongs to root. You would want to create it
as your own user. If its FAT* then use the UID/GID mount options.
Put the mount point in /etc/fstab and use the user option.
You can use the LABEL= instead of a device name and create per-LABEL
mount points and put them all in fstab.

Beside the question why to install sarge, of course you might have your
reasons, I think I found the latest build for the latest point release
here:
ftp://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/3.1_r6a/i386/iso-cd/
Cheers,

I'm not familiar with qemu. What do you mean by "it's use of samba works
out of the box"? Does qemu have it's own samba server built in or
something?
I have samba set up on my debian box, vmware server on the same box, and
all the VMs can see the samba shares fine. I use either 'n private
subnet with NAT or bridged ethernet, depending on what I'm testing.
If you're using bridged, then yes, you would have to adapt your
firewall, because the VM would connect to your external network
interface as if it is coming from outside. If your firewall explicitly
deals with your primary interface, you'll get away with not having to do
anything to it if you used a private subnet.
