> don't know how to version odt.

You snipped the relevant portion of that requirement. Freemind (stat= ed
mistakenly as Mindmap) and Storylines files were the examples I gave for non-textual. I started out the thread thinking that OOo could be version= ed
since I knew it was nothing more than an XML document. I did not know at=  the
time it was compressed which would render it non-text to a versioning sof= tware.

I was quickly disabused of that misconception and was perfectly fine = to
not have versioning via normal textual means. In fact I then switched my=

thinking to how to get OOo to save uncompressed or have the versioning software to handle OOo documents. But if I can't get it versioned that's=  no
big deal.

To explain I mistakenly called Freemind Mindmap as it is mindmapping software. Storylines is a portion of a suite of software to help an auth= or
keep track of the elements of fictional writing which is called Writer's = Cafe.
It would be what Writer is to OOo.

Oh, I understand why. The amusement came from the perception, correc= t or
not, that people would trust/respect my decision on two pieces and not th= e
third. I can assure you that there aren't many alternatives to Writer's Cafe/Storylines as it is the only software of its kind I have found to ru= n on
Linux. There's maybe 2 for Freemind and neither is, AFAIK, any better at=

being versioning friendly than Freemind is.

I just purchased a Shuttle XPC SN27P2 barebones system. Chipset: North Bridge - Nvidia nForce 570 Ultra Onboard NIC: Marvell 88E1116(10/100/1000Mbps) - I also added a Intel Dual-Server NIC and disabled the Marvell

I tried installing Debian 4.0r0, 4.0r1 and a nightly test build and they all suffer from the same problem; an extremely slow connection to the internet (about dial-up speed - I have a 5Meg cable connection).

Yet, if I boot off of a PCLinuxOS Live CD the network works perfectly.

I've changed cables and network cards with no luck. I'm hoping someone here will see something that I've overlooked.

Thank you.

Do you have some sort of duplex mismatch? Ethtool or mii-tool will report duplex status and Ethernet speed.

Seems unlikely to me. We're talking about less change in the 4.1r1 release than happens in a given day in unstable. 37 packages were updated for non-security bigfixes, and 34 for security fixes. Security fixes shouldn't cause upgrade problems by definition, and the bug fixes were all made with a stable update in mind. I upgraded a box from sarge to 4.0r1 last month and it went just as documented in the release notes. --=20 see shy jo --huq684BweRXVnRxX Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: Digital signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFG++Dgd8HHehbQuO8RAkHBAJ46ITN713MVHkq5Lj+NChNSdj1/7wCfSt1Z ijs/ODtVvOPbxp/DLV43EUU= =2d2K -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --huq684BweRXVnRxX--

That's why the code I posted test the DISPLAY variable before doing anything.

I'm having trouble understanding you. It sounds like you can boot in neither Linux no Solaris. I would advise using the live CD to boot the different O/S installations. Configure Grub once booted.

Neither do I.

Only one operating system should boot from the MBR (master boot record). The others should boot from their partitions bootsectors (superblocks). Use your live CD to boot either Linux and install Linux's Grub to the MBR. Then boot into Solaris and use its Grub to install Grub to the superblock of the Solaris partition. You can then boot back into Linux and create a Grub boot stanza for chain-loading the Solaris bootsector (to boot Solaris). HTH

Today I found a very strange problem. Some files seem to be missing from locatedb database. It all started with one particular file I wanted to find. But 'locate <word>' didn't find the file I was looking for. I went to the directory it was supposed to be, and there it was! I have a cron job to updatedb every night. In fact: $ ls -l /var/cache/locate/ total 7020 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7173582 2007-09-27 06:26 locatedb So it seems to be in order. The file I wanted was created in August. So? In fact, none the files in this directory is in the database! In case you're curious, the directory is named ~/textos/fisica/departamento_fisica/departamento In /etc/updatedb.conf, there is the following line: PRUNEPATHS="/tmp /usr/tmp /var/tmp /afs /amd /alex /var/spool /sfs /media" So I don't think updatedb should omit this directory. In fact, none of the files in any subdirectory of ~/textos/fisica/departamento_fisica/ is indexed! I've made some random search of files in other directories, and they seem indexed. In fact files in ~/textos itself are indexed. Some files in the original problematic directory have permissions -rw------- (does updatedb respect this), but the file I was looking for in the first place has read permissions for all. I don't understand. Does any? Regards, Victor End of debian-user-digest Digest V2007 Issue #2488 ************************************************** Received on Thu Sep 27 13:55:48 2007
