Most definitely something is badly broken. It's robomod@news.nic.it.

I'm getting multiple duplicate messages from robomod@news.nic.it . At
first I thought it might be a Thunderbird bug or a local configuration
problem, but now I'm sure it's robomod's problem.
It seems that messages from the 26th to 29th are being duplicated.
I hope that someone drops a line to the people managing
robomod@news.nic.it, and I hope that the Debian list maintainers
temporarily block news.nic.it until the problem is resolved.
But if news.nic.it is pulling from the newsgroup linux.debian.user,
we've got a problem.
I've killfiled robomod@news.nic.it, but they're still tripling the
number of messages I have to download when I fetch my mail; however, if
you decide to killfile the robomod, you can select messages where the
Sender: header is robomod@news.nic.it. Presumably the confirmation
messages have From: headers that contain robomod@news.nic.it.

AFAIK this is a mail<->news gateway used by many posters here and it=20
appears to be broken ATM. I'm Cc'ing listmaster, just in case they=20
didn't notice (it is Sunday after all).
As for the mails you are receiving directly (like I do as well), you=20
will have to setup a filter :(

nVidia is onboard, VIA is the new one.
Connecting an external harddrive to one of the old USB 1.1 ports works:

Why it won't work is that the cmos machine needs a flash update provided
of course one is available for that machine. Try to get a cmos update
later than December 1998 and as recent as possible and you my find that
problem disappears. Good luck!

Apologies,
what I meant to say was I'm not building a standard router. I can't go
with distros like pebble, shorewall or ipcop. They don't have package
management as debian has it or upgrade mechanisms...
The routing i'm trying to achieve will be more like streamlined
multiplexing of traffic (don't have the correct terminology yet, it
will be something that audits traffic and logs it to different target,
imho quite specialized so I need to have a full distro as I probably
need to create some interfaces for easy maintenance, nagios, snmp,
webinterface for configuration etc....)

I can connect only if I set the correct netmask and I fix the routing
table:
# ifconfig eth0 netmask 255.255.255.0
# route add default gw 192.168.1.1
I've already grep'ed for ifconfig into /etc/, also looked for eth0
into /etc/udev/, bot I haven't noticed anything strange.
Any idea about this?
Kindly,
David (a newcomer to debian-user :) )

My ISP does not provide DHCP, so I configured network manually, all data I
got from windows by ipconfig /all
command.
I left http proxy field empty, my LAN uses http proxy but internet
connection does not so I supposed I do not need it.
However during installation, "configuring APT - scanning the mirror" phase
does not work out, whatever mirror I choose.
My internet is through pppoe, but at no point netinstall asks
login and parol. So apparently I should install just base system, then
configure pppoe and then go on with apt-get.
Here I found old tutorial for Sarge, according to which pppoeconfig should
be in the base system:
http://www.debiantutorials.org/content/view/6/234/
However there is no pppoeconfig in my base system!
I would appreciate if someone could give me a hint what to do...

The xmodmap problem has, as promised by the maintainer, gone away with
the latest upgrade of xserver-xorg.

Hi!
I am running etch in a machine with two HDs. Etch is running in the
master HD (hdc), the second HD (hdd), the slave, is empty. In the second
hd (hdd) I need to install windows xp. I wonder how to do that in order
to get a dual boot system, managed by grub. The bios let me define the
HD from which the system boots. Now the bios is configured to boot from
hdc, where etch (and grub) resides: hdc-hdd. Due that during the install
of xp the system re-boots several times from the HD, I wonder if I can
install xp on hdd simply inverting the boot sequence: hdd-hdc, and,
after the installation of xp, inverting the sequence again: hdc-hdd, in
order to boot with grub.
If it is possible, I guess I still need to tell grub that there is
another OS in the system. How can I do that?
Thanks in advance for the help,
Marcelo
