That's it! Thank you. But I am curious as to how the iceweasel script running on the remote host is able to spawn/control the local process without authentication. I have not added the remote hosts key in my authorised_hosts file.

I believe that just updating your package lists should do the trick.

There are two sources of updates:

Can we help you?X

    (a) security updates, from security.debian.org     (b) updates to the stable release, such as etch r0, r1, r2.

Changes to the stable release occur relatively infrequently and include all the security updates since the last release, along with (at the stable release manager's discretion) fixes for particularly severe bugs. Bugfixes are generally for things like "the package doesn't work at all" that would be RC pre-release.
The stable release is what's used to produce official CD images, as a reference point when discussing version numbers, etc. This is probably what the Changelog you found refers to.

Security updates are published ASAP for obvious reasons. But they aren't included in the main Debian archive, which contains the last official stable release, since they aren't yet part of it. Instead they're published from security.debian.org. As the other responder to your message wrote, you can see Debian's security alerts at http://security.debian.org .

Thanks for your info. There were xorg packages updated during the upgrade. The first time I upgrade only the linux-image, the X can not be started up due to my NV display driver issue, so that I used dist-upgrade. Although the aptitude issue and the display drivers are resolved and working fine, I found the system is behaving a little slower than before. It's quite obvious to see that the output is returned slowly when I execute the "df -h" to check the disk info. That's why I'm thinking about the downgrading.... Per your suggestions, I think I need to keep it as updated and change the source list to testing, waiting to see if there is any improvment in future! Thanks a lot! Michael

It's definitely not that problem. When my system crashes EVERYTHING locks up, including the cursor blinking. The system is COMPLETELY unresponsive and at a standstill. I'll try accessing my webserver from another computer next time it happens though...That's a very good idea. - -- If programmers deserve to be rewarded for creating innovative programs, by the same token they deserve to be punished if they restrict the use of these programs. - Richard Stallman -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHBGdWg6qL2BGnx4QRAtO4AKC0T7mg79TuBAYSBWwFZdvFBlCqmwCfToiW 2CPwaXPOOc2Ppxb0NPZIW3g= =34XC -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Yeah the CRC errors looked weird. The DVD isn't scratched badly. And it also plays fine on a regular dvd player. So yeah I'm not sure what could be the issue. I was going to try out kaffeine and checked out its dependencies...it uses xine as the backend so I tried installing xine and using that to play dvds. No luck...still didn't work. Basically I want to access the console interface of a network interface device using RS-232. I am pretty sure linux/unix has built in support for this but how does it work? Do I just plug it in? Where do I set the baud rate? And I usually need to transfer files via the 1K Xmodem protocol. Do I need an external software for this? At work we use windows terminals to access these devices (using built in HyperTerminal program or PuTTY). But I would like to recommend the use of debian etch.
