This was one step I had missed. The second one was to put: #GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
GTK_IM_MODULE="scim-bridge"
#QT_IM_MODULE=xim
QT_IM_MODULE="scim-bridge"

in /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/scim. For which I had to install scim-bridge package.

Do you need more help?X

Then logging out and loggin back in gave me the SCIM toolbar in KDE which is toggled using CTRL+Space.

Thanks a ton!

I've got es_ES.utf-8
but I think is not a probelm with locale definition. The only key that work are letters, the other ones, just a mess, most of them missing, and some changed. Ctrl and ALT not working either... well, it's very hard to work with the laptop, but I have no more computers. I'm gettin crazy, the xorg.conf server looks fine.

Can we help you?X

And waited. And waited. Eventually i took a look at the Desktop -> Administration -> Networking tool, and there was not eth0 listed there, and then i ran ifconfig and eth0 isnt there either.

  I haven't seen anyone mention this yet: unless you're running "ifconfig -a", interfaces that are unconfigured won't show up in the output. It would be interesting to see what the output of that command is (it'll indicate which interfaces the kernel knows about, as opposed to which ones network-manager has set up).

See bugs #447666, #447676, #447841. Apparently the problem is resolved with hal 0.5.10-2. (http://incoming.debian.org)

For a temporary fix you can uninstall xserver-xorg-input-evdev and restart X. (That is what I did; I did not have time to try the new hal package yet.)

I've been advised to switch to network-manager, as it apparently will automatically handle the networking details. So I used aptitude to install network-manager and network-manager-gnome, for use on my Lenny laptop running fluxbox. I added nm-applet & to my .xsession. I now have a blank square on my toolbar (i.e., no icon). Right clicking on this icon give me the grayed-out message "NetworkManager is not running", although if I run ps -e I can see both NetworkManager and NetworkManagerD are running processes. Left clicking the toolbar box brings up the nm-applet menu. What else do I need to do to get NetworkManager running properly on fluxbox? I googled around a bit, but found only problems that didn't appear to be related to mine. Granted, I don't understand much about networking. Thanks! Tyler

If you follow the recommendations for less and put "eval `lesspipe`" in your .bash_profile, then you just type less as the first person suggested. Just type "man lesspipe" for details. --=20 Carl Johnson carlj@peak.org

I am not so sure, but I guess that the packages like scim-bridge-client-qt or scim-bridge-client-gtk are only needed if you use the immodule version of scim. For the XIM setting, they may not be needed. In fact I am not sure about the differences between the traditional XIM input methods for standard X applications and the advanced immodule input methods for specific qt or gtk applications. I heard that immodule ones add fancy functions to control the cursor etc. But I also heard that immodule platform (especially the one for qt) has not been very mature yet, while the traditional XIM methods work well for me. Would anyone please let me know whether this is correct or not? For example, Alt-Gr key had the enter function, when I pushed "up" direction key the Ksnapshot was launched, etc. Then I saw in this forum that the package xserver-xorg-input-evdev could have a problem with other modules related to xorg. To remove xserver-xorg-input-evdev with apt-get remove xserver-xorg-input-evdev solved my problem. Thank you very much for your help. Regards, Javier. Florian Kulzer-3 wrote:
