# iwconfig wifi0
wifi0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"SX551559148"

        Mode:Managed Frequency:2.432 GHz Access Point:00:01:E3:55:91:48

The output of 'dmesg | grep airo' is:

    airo(): Probing for PCI adapters
    airo(eth0): Found an MPI350 card
    airo(eth0): WPA is supported.
    airo(eth0): MAC enabled 0:2:8a:dd:a6:b7
airo(): Finished probing for PCI adapters
Do you need more help?X

So I am under the impression that I should use the eth0 interface instead. But then 'iwconfig eth0' gives hardly any difference:

# iwconfig eth0
eth0 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"SX551559148"

        Mode:Managed Frequency:2.432 GHz Access Point:00:01:E3:55:91:48
        Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Tx-Power=17 dBm Sensitivity=0/65535
        Retry limit:16 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
        Encryption key:****-****-****-****-****-****-** [4] Security mode:open
        Power Management:off
Link Quality=72/100 Signal level=-59 dBm Noise level=-98 dBm
Rx invalid nvid:94 Rx invalid crypt:341 Rx invalid frag:0
        Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:4709 Missed beacon:0

And still there's the error message 'No DHCPOFFERS received'. And there is some difference with the output of 'iwlist eth0 scan':

# iwlist eth0 scan

You can use date:

sudo date --set=3D'+2 minutes'
sudo date --set=3D'-3 minutes'
sudo date --set=3D'+1 hour'

Call Pantek today for Open Source Technical Support at 1-877-546-8934 - 24/7/365X

Debian just "re-branded" the Firefox because the name and the logo are not accepted as "free" by Debian. (or something like this...)

This means, Iceweasel *is* Firefox just with another name.

Greetings,

Claudius

Google knows all, sees all, tells all. It is available as a standard Debian package. I found that I like to use the Sun Java platform more than the alternatives mostly because the stuff I write has to run on a number of platforms all of which run the Sun virtual machine. The Sun SDK is available as standard Debian packages too. Eric On Sat, Nov 03, 2007 at 05:02:46PM -0400, Richard wrote:

The mozilla corp would not let them use the firefox name/logo without (unacceptable) restrictions. -Miles -- "Though they may have different meanings, the cries of 'Yeeeee-haw!' and 'Allahu akbar!' are, in spirit, not actually all that different."

Files in that directory are executed by 'run-parts'. That has some restrictions upon the filenames you may use. See 'man run-parts' for details. My suggestion: 1. Name the script 'firewall'. 2. Make sure it is executable. 3. Make sure your firewall is flushed/off. 4. Run /etc/init.d/networking restart, or reboot. 5. Now list rules. Did you enable packet forwarding on box 1? Is shorewall masquerading for you? Add IP numbers to your diagram. Test by pinging by IP number and worry about DNS once IP works. Doug.

I'm on dialup and like to get small things if I can. Something I've found very helpful to have when working with flaky hardware is a totally different kernel to boot. I have had good luck with the OpenBSD boot floppy (an actual floppy, their current floppy42.fs) or cdrom42.fs (a 2.88 MB file). The BSD dmesg boot messages are _very_ informative and are used in BSD land the way lspci is used on debian-boot. If this boots you'll at least know that the hardware should be fine. If not, perhaps you'll get a different error message that could help to track down the problem. Doug.

He said that he's exercising an abundance of caution by running synaptic. Hense my question about X dying. Doug.

This camera is dated 2001 and claims it requires Windows 98, 98SE, or Millennium Edition. Does anyone know if there are currently Linux drivers for this? I am running Etch with a 2.6.16-2-k7 stock Debian kernel and udev. This is a USB camera. I plugged it in and dmesg added the following lines: usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2 usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Can I assume that it has loaded any necessary drivers? What should I look for in the lsmod listing.
