Dear,
	I do not think so.
While I used `apt-get install xorg`, same problem.

Thanks.

I have no idea what to do if there is no audio device listed with lscpi, as in Wayne's case, except for the standard "Have you tried the newest kernel already?" suggestion.

I tend to prefer HP machines. Partly for build quality, partly for the HP attitude to Linux (they acknowledge it exists, and provide support), and partly on price (not cheapest, but not too expensive, either). Kelly has recommended the Sane project, with the proviso that HP multi-function devices aren't supported. Be aware though, that HP provide HPLIP for Linux which *does* support their mf devices. --=20 Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" It's got nothing to do with the need to impress Titanic (My Over) Reaction - 999 --Sig_/4xlB52rf1VXTpa+jnVFnIH5 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=signature.asc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHQ/VUSXvR9Iq2E38RAktIAJ97F4eHgp2d3Ya8wP60uhTLE56hSwCfezJg g9nWdrujBSdn/5g3q9TprPk= =vLdh -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Sig_/4xlB52rf1VXTpa+jnVFnIH5--

I've tried and failed. I think you need the gnomad2 out of unstable (sorry, can't recall why) but when I tried that the resulting mixed system, for me, gave problems with a hanging Gnome so I had to reinstall etch from scratch :( M

I have a laptop that I use at home, on campus, and various other places. The firewall solution I use is called firestarter. The simplest way to get it up and running is sudo aptitude install firestarter. It is a front-end to iptables and very simple to use and set up. I believe it will fit your needs. Check it out. Good luck.

stay away from Canon LIDE 20. It will be recognised by SANE but as soon as you start scanning it won't work. I tried with several Linux distributions and had no luck so far. I am only using it under MacOSX with a terrible frontend from Canon (really crap) regards Lars

Mine worked for more than a year, first with Mandriva and then Debian. Then, one day, it just stopped. I previously owned a Canon printer which exhibited the same behaviour. That is, it just stopped working one day. I see a pattern developing. In any event, LiDE 20s seem to be getting hard to come by, these days. --=20 Regards _ / ) "The blindingly obvious is / _)rad never immediately apparent" An old custom to sell your daughter Hong Kong Garden - Siouxsie & The Banshees --Sig_//uDdZJdv6KTwKojxf/KzRbb Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=signature.asc -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHQ/86SXvR9Iq2E38RAkniAJ4i7rvWdGAHFovIT1xohSe6B2x/XQCZAYW5 5UMfs5RHIscIoTSNHm8K354= =e8be -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Sig_//uDdZJdv6KTwKojxf/KzRbb--

Hey, Easy fix that works for me. If your web server isn't already using it then just get ssh to listen on port 443 which the firewall will more than likely let through for https. cheers, Owen.

I use firestarter as well on my etch laptop. One problem I have is that I have to manually reconfigure firestarter to switch from cable (eth0) to wireless (eth2). How did you solve this problem? If you just configure it once, say for eth0, it will simply ignore all the traffic on eth2 (IIUC), if you happen to later use eth2 without reconfiguration of firestarter. I guess one could write a script to automate this, but you should be aware of the problem. I am using several epson scanners (have to check their model numbers). They are all supported by the same proprietary driver which is not difficult to set up and has a simpler (ie. better) user interface than their windows counterpart. If I start with the old kernel it works again. I have to do dist-upgrade from time to time and throwing away new kernel is annoying. How can I solve this problem? Still, the same problem. In fact, this behaviour is seen even under the amd64 port as well as ubuntu (feisty) with the kernel 2.6.20-15-generic). But, on the same machine, the ipod mounts without any problem with kernel 2.6.18. Anyone else facing similar problems and has a workaround, please point me to the relevant docs so that I can solve this.
