Hello *,

Do you need help?X

My HP-Scanner is gone and I do not find the same model on eBay...

Can anyone recommend a very fast SCSI-Scanner (at least 2400DpI optic without interpolation ) in format A3 or a little big bigger?

I think, it is 19x14 inch or something like this, since I have landmaps, which are arround 5 cm bigger then A3 and I can scan it fully.

Note: I do not want to have an USB-Scanner because they are definitivly

crap in this size and not availlable for professionel use...

Thanks, Greetings and nice Day

Can't find what you're looking for?X

Please note, that

    ~/.Xresources

are different from

    ~/.Xdefaults-<host_alias>
or

    ~/.Xdefaults

While the first one is read by the "xserver" from

    /etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common

the later two are read by the application directly at every startup.

Don't know where to look next?X

What if, he do not need any X-Releted stuff because he has no x-desktop, no bloatware because he can not use it (maybe he live in a country where he is lucky to have a Am486dx4-100 with 64 MByte of memory -- I know some people in middle-africa which use such computers with DOS-Programs... which could be replaced by a GNU/Linux system...)

The problem is, that NOT ALL users can read usenet...

I do not like the console-irc-clients under linux... The DOS ones went better... :-) long time ago...

I do not know of such list, but maybe, you could create your own one on <yahoogroups.com> (Yeah, it has changed to HTML-Crap) but I can not recommend <googlegroops.com> since only GMail-Users/Spamer can subscribe there. -- In general, the same crap as Yahoogroups.

Micha, I am running Dreamlinux (Debian Etch 4 w/xfce) on my
Dell Inspiron laptop. Internet=20
management has been a breeze with this system.=20 I am using a Ralink wireless card monitored with the Wavelan=20
applet plugin.

Net packages that I find installed (by default) are the following:
netapplet
netbase
netcat
net-tools
networkconf
wavmon
wireless-tools
wpasupplicant
xfce4-wavelan-plugin
xfce4-goodies

Don't know where to look next?X

There may be other packages of significance due to=20 dependencies, etc.

Automatic connection is being established consistently with=20
this setup.

HTHs a little. Best regards.

  • Angus

It depends: I'm using a similar drive. These drives are very prone to turn themselves off into power saving mode or similar / lose interrupts. At this point they remount read only / with directories with no permissions.

A colleague used Google to find that the problem may be with SCSI emulation - if you echo 1 > allow_restart in /sys/block/sd*/device/scsi_disk:<numbers> the problem may go away.

Confused? Frustrated?X

Known problem :(

Do you want to control, or connect?

If you want to control you can always use mapping in /etc/network/interfaces; But I assume you're looking for a GUI-type way. In that case you may be interested in nm-applet (network-manager-gnome is the package).

A package like that would be near useless. For ndiswrapper there are many GUIs, and for everything else there are drivers (ipw3945, for example).

If the system came with an OS pre-installed, use lspci (Or whatever the Windows equivalent is) and write down all of the hardware. Video card, sound card, wireless chip, etcetera. You will need all of this when it comes time to install Debian, since Debian doesn't install a majority of that by itself, and leaves it up to the end-user.
