The problem starts mostly on Debian install party while all the area
is covered with Broadband wirless network (Thank you SCE for it)
There are not ethernet cards to connect to get the package from the net.
so i find myself creating a seprate disk with:
some kernel sources , lots of module source files
or Just 4 debian dvds (Just in case).
Since you don't know what you may need .

This is exactly what i can't affored myself (since on Install parties
you can't say: sorry mate your wifi isn't working we need to bring you
some more divers).
while with normal drivers (! Ndiswrapper) you can apt-get / wget there
you need to google for it.
P.s
on most Install parties / meetings we use allready created Wirelless
BroadBand Network or Ad-Hoc based .

I don't know k9copy, is there a way to have it use another directory
than /tmp, e.g. by a command-line option or by setting TMPDIR? If not,
you should file a bug report to the k9copy authors, because putting huge
files in /tmp is just plain wrong. These days it makes sense to mount
/tmp on a tmpfs filesystem, and writing DVD images there thwarts this
possibility.

Bob,
I have not done this with AD; however, I have done it with Novell's eDir on a
Netware Box. After confirming what attributes where visiable with an LDAP
Browser on my windows workstation (http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/~gawor/ldap/),
I wrote a perl script to verify/test e-mail address verification on the eDir.
- Perl Snippit **************
# Open Connection to the LDAP server
print "Opening a connection to $ldhost ... ";
$ldap = Net::LDAP->new($ldhost) || die "Could not connect -- $@";
print "OK\n";
#
print "Binding ... ";
# Do an anonymous bind
$mesg = $ldap->bind;
$status = $mesg->code;
$errmsg = $mesg->error;
print "Status: ($status) $errmsg ";
#
# Do a search for each e-mail address
foreach $addr (@eaddrs) {
print "Looking for $addr ... ";
$filter = "(\&(objectclass=inetOrgPerson) (mail=".$addr."))";
$mesg = $ldap->search(base=>$ogunit, filter=>$filter, attrs=>@attribs );
$status = $mesg->code; $errmsg = $mesg->error; print "Status: ($status)
$errmsg "; $ecnt = $mesg->count; print "found $ecnt entries\n"; if(
$ecnt > 0 ) { # Found email address in directory
foreach $entry ($mesg->entries) {
$dn = $entry->dn;
$spam = $entry->get_value('SpamControl');
print "\t$dn \tSpamControl: $spam ";
@email = $entry->get_value('mail');
$flag=0;
foreach $alias (@email) {
if( $flag ) { print "\n\t Alias: $alias"; }
else {
print "\n\tAddress: $alias";
$flag=1;
}
}
}
}
else { print "failed. Does not exist in the directory\n\n"; }
}
******** End of Perl Snippit ***************
Once, I was able to verify email addresses with the perl; I adjusted Exim4's
configuration like so ... (You need to have the "heavy" exim4 package)
#### CWR Attempt at LDAP E-Mail Address verification
#### accept any "group" or "mail list" address which are not in the
#### eDirectory
accept
domains = kimberly.uidaho.edu
recipients = lsearch;CONFDIR/acceptable.lst
#### check for individual e-mail addresses which are in the eDirectory
deny
domains = kimberly.uidaho.edu
message = Administrative prohibition - unable to validate recipient
condition = ${lookup ldapm{ \
ldap://###.###.###.###/o=ui?mail?sub?\
(mail=${quote_ldap:$local_part@$domain})} {0} {1} }
####
#### CWR Attempt at LDAP -- discard
The key for me, was using the perl script and ldap browser to verify what
attributes where visiable when doing an anonymous bind to ldap _and_ how to
code the request.
I how this helps a bit. My setup is a Novell Netware server hidden from the
outside world and a Debian ETCH server visable to the outside world running
exim.

Hi,
Does anybody know how to install the latest version of ntfs-3g from
http://ntfs-3g.org/ in the latest version of Etch stable???
I just finished installing the latest version of "Etch" and want to
setup fstab for read/write access to a couple of XP NTFS partitions.
ntfs-3g seems to be the way I want to go but ntfs-3g isn't part of the
stable release of Etch so I downloaded the latest (stable) version of
ntfs-3g (1.1120) from the ntfs-3g.org web site and ran ./configure.
./configure told me that I needed to install a version of fuse>=2.6 for
it to continue ... but "fuse" (Filesystem in Userspace) is already
compiled as a module into Etch stable. I thought that version was 2.6
or better???
So how do I get where I want to go?
Thanks in advance
Don

Please, help me! I have read much much about bluetooth protocol and
Debian, but from begin to now I cannot transfert my files from my PC
to my cell phone without grafical interface (gnome-bluetooth and
similar).
It's frustrating!
Now, I want and easy text-based way to trasfert one file PC->phone. I
think `obex' family is the right way, but despite
/etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf said NO, cell phone ask me a password (PIN),
isset on 1234, but it said it's wrong!
With grafical interface phone ask if I want receive file and then
trasfert start without
problems! Why?

If k9copy reads an environment variable (usually TEMP or TMP) to find
the temporary directory, you could try setting that to somewhere that
has more space (e.g., ~/tmp). Its documentation might say more about which
environment variables it respects. If it's a GUI program, you could also
check its interactive configuration and see whether there's a setting
controlling where the temporary files go.

Fuse has a kernel component and a userspace component. Your
kernel version is > 2.6, but in Etch, libfuse and fuse-utilities are
version 2.5.x. Backports.org has fuse >= 2.6 for etch. And they
have ntfs-3g packages as well.

Hello,
I have the following raid active partition:
sudo dmraid -s
*** Group superset isw_cfaabdceig
--> Active Subset
name : isw_cfaabdceig_RAIDv0
size : 308281344
stride : 256
type : mirror
status : ok
subsets: 0
devs : 2
spares : 0
sudo dmraid -r
/dev/sdb: isw, "isw_cfaabdceig", GROUP, ok, 320173054 sectors, data@ 0
/dev/sdc: isw, "isw_cfaabdceig", GROUP, ok, 312581806 sectors, data@ 0
cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
[raid10]
unused devices: <none>
This RAID set was working until now, but /dev/sda (first disk on my system but
not include in the RAID) was replaced.
So I suppose simply I have to (re)mount the RAID.
How to proceed ?
Thanks for any clue or help.
Bye,
Bruno

No. The NTFS file system does not need defragmentation.
The best explanation I've heard of why they have a defragmenter for it
is that it was considered easier to write a defragmenter than to go
about explaining that FAT32 just sucks.
Stefan
PS: The only time I ran XP's defragmenter for its NTFS filesystem (so as
to make space for Debian using ntfsresize back when it was not yet able
to move files on its own), my wife subsequently complained that her
machine booted (and generally felt) slower ;-)

Well, I debugged this further. When NMBD is loaded then I get irregular
disk accesses, that is differing periods of time between them. If nmbd
is stopped, then those disk accesses stop completely.
I tried using strace on all processes, most are in idle just waiting to
do something. NMBD is very often doing things, usually attaching
processes, these exit then a while later. But there doesn't seem to be
any correlation between these processes and when I see the disk access.
So I guess strace is not showing me everything, I have also tried just
strace -t -f -pPID, I get a lot more ouput, but no sign of nmbd trying
to access the disk.
Anyone know why?
Cheers Brian

It's been a while since I used k-9 copy (a few months at least) but
I never needed that much space in /tmp. Poke around in the config
dialogs looking for references to /tmp and change that.=20
hm... it occurs to me that maybe you're trying to backup from one dvd
to another? And that's causing k-9 copy to want to store the file
temporarily, thus it uses /tmp. Why not just copy it directly to your
harddrive and then perform the burn as a separate step. just a
thought.
