I also found pf a little more intuitive to configure than Linux's
iptables, but this is probably a matter of personal preference. And
it is indeed very fast.
Unless the original poster has a lot of rules, though, I kind of
doubt the firewall overhead is actually his problem.

Instead of doing a 'compiz --replace', you could run fusion-icon. This
way, you'll get a blue cube icon on your tray, and from there you can
control all aspects of compiz and emerald. It's even possible to quick
switch window managers, in case you have a problem with compiz.

The 'f' option has to be followed directly by the name of the filename
of the tar archive. Just like
tar cvf /srv/backup/www-backup.tar /www

Why is it surprising? P4's are still alive and many have support for
SATA. I actually find my Athlon XP Barton to be more responsive than
some P4-HT that I have used. Why would it not support SATA?
Look at the A7N8X from ASUS, for example.
If you google for "socket a" +"sata", you'll get many...

Thank you, Doug and rb, for two different approaches to my problem. I'm
not, however, looking to roll my own solution if I can avoid it. Since
there are plenty of sync-friendly apps for Palm's Address Book, Date
Book, and Memo Pad, it seemed that there'd be a similar Palm finance app
that could sync to a larger Linux app.
I really dislike relying on the bank to keep track of what I spend.
What happens if I write a check that doesn't get cashed for a week or
two? Or if a debit/credit card transaction takes a few days to process
(as happens from time to time)? The bank does a very good job of
keeping track, but for certain things, a manual checkbook register is
better. Besides, there's the whole issue of trust. I trust the bank to
get things right, but not so much that I won't check their math myself!
Relying solely on online banking neglects my own responsibility to keep
track of what I spend.
I'm going to see if anyone else on the list has ideas, then start to
think about writing something myself.

You need to give two arguments to tar cvf: the name of the archive,
and the name of the directory you want to backup. I do not quite
understand what you are trying to accomplish, but this will backup the
my_data directory to my_backup.tar:
tar cvf my_backup.tar my_data/
A.

I noticed that some messages on this list mutt can not read.
When I try to read signed message (tapping ENTER) mutt says:
Could not copy message
and does not open that message in viewer.
This happend with messages in recent SUDO thread

On the other hand if I press 'e' I can edit that message in
my editor, and therefore read it!
Anybody know why this is happening?
Just for the note I did not change anythig that has to do with GPG.

Well don't I have egg on my face......
That's what happens when you come to depend on DWWW, instead of looking for
myself. I ran the dwww-build but it missed the new install docs somehow.

Hi all
I install etch in hda
then I add the hdc which have same partition but not same size in hda
/dev/hda1 /boot
/dev/hda2 /swap
/dev/hda3 /
i use rsync to copy data from hda to hdc
I use fedora5 boot disk to boot.=20
mount /boot and / and chroot to /
but I got error to grub-install /dev/hda
You shouldn't call /sbin/grub-install. Please call /usr/sbin/grub-install=
instead!
tempnam: No such file or directory
/usr/sbin/grub-install: line 394: $log_file: ambigous redirect
What is the problem?
Thank you

Hi
Skulking through /sbin this evening and I noticed the output to ls -l
/sbin is all
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root ...
Is this really an okay arrangement for the contents of /sbin?
Cheers
Andy
