strange, every morning i run two aptitude commands
from the command line
aptitude update and aptitude full-upgrade
lately on running the full upgrade x crashes, well i
shouldn't say crashes, the system goes through its
normal reboot (first time it left me going huh), no
error message in system log
version is aptitude 0.4.6.1
this occurs on both my etch and kubuntu 7.10 installs
so i am fairly sure it is not a distro problem
thanks in advance for any thoughts

I would guess (at least on the second problem) that it
is probably a setting that is off. try view (menu),
view mode, khtml to get back to viewing html
for creating a new tab check in settings, configure
shrotcuts, it is about half way down the list but it
should be there =20

I've never heard of the full-upgrade option; what does it do?

They'll all be larger than a non-GUI OpenBSD since regular OBSD doesn't
have all the cruft (compiled against extra libs) that a linux system
does. Any GUI then brings in far more libs than on linux.

Right, I do this too... coloring PS1 can give you problems if
you need to do trouble shooting and the screen is screwing up...
Using b/w terminal is warning enough.

"gksu" is no crap, since it requires a bunch (38 MByte) of GNOME
libs where I do not use any GNOME/KDE bloatware...

Yeah... I had to replace a broken Raid1 using hotfix and now my
/dev/sd?xx are sccrewed up. OK, back to the working HDD from the
Raid1 and used "tune2fs" to label the two Raid1 and the two Raid5...
Then changed /etc/lilo.conf fo use label
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/sda2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults,errors=3Dremount-ro 0 1
/dev/sda3 /tmp ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/sda4 /var/log ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/sdb1 /var/lib/postgres ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/sdc1 /var/lib/courier ext3 defaults 0 2
/dev/sdd1 /home_maildirs ext3 defaults 0 2
Now I have
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
LABEL=3Dswap none swap sw 0 0
LABEL=3Droot / ext3 defaults,errors=3Dremount-ro 0 1
LABEL=3Dtemp /tmp ext3 defaults 0 2
LABEL=3Dlog /var/log ext3 defaults 0 2
LABEL=3Dpostgres /var/lib/postgres ext3 defaults 0 2
LABEL=3Dcourier /var/lib/courier ext3 defaults 0 2
LABEL=3Dmaildirs /home_maildirs ext3 defaults 0 2
After a reboot with three new Drives (replaced /dev/sda) it
now works with any problems even if they are now "/dev/sdc".

Do you realy need 15 partitions on a singel drive?
Before I do such stuff, I put a new SCSI-Drive into the system, and then
recalculate, which partitions from the previous drive can be put onto
the new drive... then I do the partitioning and copy the stuff of all
partitions I do not need anymore from the first drive to the new drive
do a repartitioning on the first drive and copy the stuff back to it.
Since I have gotten several times problems with LVM because files went
bigger then one volume I prefer to install singel partitions of 300
GByte or build a Raid5 with 600 (3 HDDs), 900 (4 HDDs), 1200 (5 HDDs)
or more GBytes...

AsusTek A7V600-X has two PATA and two SATA ports...
Unfortunatly my Hitachi 320 GByte (SATA2) does not work in the VIA
Controller but my 4 SATA1 drives.
Q: Anyone with 2 Socket A CPUs here which do not need them anymore?
I have 2 mainboards with 3 GByte but no CPU because they are gone...
(the summer was too hot)

I am located in Strasbourg/France and Have currently not the money
to buy a new ensemble of MB, CPU and memory... (now I run two Dual
P2/366 for the moment... grrr - not realy performant)
Thanks, Greetings and nice Day
