So I went to
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/linville/wireless-dev.git;a= summary
and found a list of revisions of mac80211 by Zhu Yi.

I snagged what appears to be the latest snapshot which has the name
wireless-dev.git-73382ce0b09c9a33c647d12ddc62c68c664d9e2b.tar.gz .

tar -xvvzf *.gz
produces this error message.
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format

Someone please explain where this reasoning goes astray and which file I should have retrieved.
