Ethernet Not Working With RJ-45 Cable

I have been connecting to the internet via USB cable on my laptop, which works fine, but, when I take out the USB cable and attempt to use a Computer Network Cable (Category 5E, RJ-45) I dont' get a connection anymore (even though it says I'm connected). I even set SELinux to passive to see if that was the problem, but the same problem remains.

When I have the USB cable for internet and do an ifconfig I get:

eth1      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:02:3F:BC:0D:13
          UP BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:576  Metric:1
          RX packets:7493 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

          Interrupt:10 Base address:0xc000

eth2      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:15:9A:C4:D0:6D
          inet addr:24.162.201.28  Bcast:255.255.255.255  Mask:255.255.248.0

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:1354 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

          RX bytes:111000 (108.3 KiB)  TX bytes:111000 (108.3 KiB)

When I use the RJ-45 I get:

eth1      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:02:3F:BC:0D:13
          inet addr:24.162.207.54  Bcast:255.255.255.255  Mask:255.255.248.0
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:576 Metric:1
          RX packets:7605 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:7 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:474209 (463.0 KiB)  TX bytes:2394 (2.3 KiB)
          Interrupt:10 Base address:0xc000

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

When using the RJ I also get the pop-up telling me that I'm connected to the internet, but pings don't work (unknown host).

I did an lspci and got this for my ethernet card:

01:01.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)

I did some research on the internet and saw that this corresponds to the 8139too module, so I added that module to the /etc/modules file via nano. I restarted the computer and it still wouldn't work. My father's computer works fine with this cable (albeit he uses Windows XP). Would someone please show me where I'm going wrong with my logic/understanding? Thanks. ~Telly
