It is worth a try; if that doesn't work then you can also try to run the nvidia installer script again. When I was still using the nvidia installer I had to run it again whenever xserver-xorg-core was upgraded. (The Debian nvidida packages avoid this by using the dpkg-divert mechanism to protect the libglx.so symlink against being overwritten by xserver-xorg-core.)

However, I am currently not using any nvidia cards, so there might new issues of which I am not aware; the links mentioned by Sam Leon are definitely worth checking out.
