Maybe, might be a controller problem. So, debian don't see any hard disk. Try switch to shell and do dmesg command.

Or try daily netinstall snapshot.

U might try with ubuntu live 6.10 (it doesn't install anything on hard disk) and check if ubuntu's kernel check your controller (and disk).

So, u could understand what's the problem.
