Sorry to hear that you are having a lot of trouble. I don't have that much experience in setting up samba but when I had to set up a small samba shared drive I read this document.

/usr/share/doc/HOWTO/en-txt/Samba-Authenticated-Gateway-HOWTO.gz

This should be installed by default in all debian boxes.

Just my 2 cents.
