I'm afraid there's no simple answer. If you added/removed a group, you should better do that using addgroup/delgroup (adduser pkg) or groupadd/groupdel (passwd pkg).

Otherwise it's better to edit gshadow manually - it's sometimes not easy to see what you have changed.
