Why don't you think that the network card isn't being detected? By the simple reason that you are being asked to configure a network tells me that the install has detected a network card. If you have it connected to a network with a dhcp server then auto configuration can happen if the dhcp server will hand out addresses to host's it doesn't know about. otherwise with no lan cable connected you can manually set up the networking side of things using static addressing.

Also you can skip the network setup until later in the install, or not do it and it will be setup to detect dhcp.
