See Bug #432755 [0]. I guess you are using Etch/stable. Take the Lenny package or do a manual installation.

I understand, and that's why I didn't understand what was going on, for I did nothing to fetchmail. I inferred that fetchmail was sending the mail server data that it didn't like.

I had looked at that site, but clearly it had to do with SSL, which I'm not using. >

Ping teufel does not run. I seem to have some problem with hostname aliases: $ hostname teufel $ hostname -a teufel I assume the response with the -a option would include localhost@localdomain, etc., for: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 192.168.1.1 teufel.hartford-hwp.com teufel My my assumption correct, my mail server does not like the way I identify myself, which apparently sa-exim or exim reconfigure somehow changed. -- Haines Brown, KB1GRM

Up to date Sid. A couple weeks ago (gosh, time flies) I had to do a full rebuild due to a corrupt file system. My first, in 12 years of using Debian. After reinstalling everything that I can think of, I tried to use an IRC client supplied by a web site, a Java applet. It worked just fine in Iceweasel before the rebuild, but now it comes with "plug-in not found, Java JRE." I've put in every Java/JRE package that I find in the archives, but it still comes up. Of course, there isn't any automatic FireFox plug-in. Suggestions? Try making a symlink to one of the JRE's javaplugins, as below: westk[@novie]:/usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins:> ls -lh total 6.8M -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6.8M Jul 17 20:27 libflashplayer.so lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 59 Jul 17 20:30 libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /usr/local/jre1.6.0_02/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so In my case, the command "ln -s /usr/local/jre1.6.0_02/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins" did the job. Your command will depend on where your real JRE plugin can be found. -- Kent

Here I have: $ hostname=20 wira $ hostname -a wira=20 and fetchmail runs pretty well, including SSL. Why would the whole fingerprint come up if you didn't use SSL ? Have you tried telnet, then ? Does it work ? Can you show your .fetchmailrc ? Uwe

Ok, it's been so long that I had forgotten about "Installing Sun's Java environment on Debian Systems", http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/142 But there is so much of Java that is now being included in the official Sid, the JRE didn't get made "free" yet? I know that bios sees the wireless keyboard and mouse because I can hit delete and go to bios setup (If that makes any difference) It has been quite some time since I did a system upgrade and I noticed that kdm looked a lot different. Thanks for any help in advance.

The only thing in the BIOS here is a hard drive diagnostics utility. It sa= ys=20 there that if you need more information to use software from Lenovo's site.

To recap: This is on a new ThinkPad running Debian Lenny/Sid amd64. I have two problems: - the original "random keystrokes ignored on console" dbus seems to deserve the blame for this. - a udevsleep delay on startup of >20 seconds This seems to be a udev problem that has been seen on different hardware. These problems prompted me to run the hardware diagnostics on the Rescue &= =20 Recovery CD. Two tests failed: System Board: USB Port Test - Abnormal Exit SMBIOS: Standards Test - Failed Because I haven't had any problems that seem remotely related, USB seems to= =20 work fine, and the software seems unable to provide any more information th= an=20 what I've put here, I am beginning feel like the PCDoctor software on the C= D is=20 worthless and should be ignored.
