Well I'll be damned. How many times must one search for "java" to find
them all? Seriously, I looked several times right to the end of the
list, and didn't see these.
Thank you.

Could you post your /etc/apt/sources.list and the contents of
/etc/debian_version ? I'm wondering if you maybe upgraded to etch by
accident (which could have happened if you listed "stable" instead of
"sarge" in sources.list).

Greetings,
I'm using Stable with an amd64 kernel. I want to switch to a 32 bit version
rather than the 64 bit. Any advice on doing so, or am I better off to just
reload totally and start from scratch? What's the best way to make this
change?
Thanks,

It seems you would def. need to re-install as the 32-bit kernel wouldn't
be able to run any of the 64 packages and libraries that are installed on
your system.

Hello,
on http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners_from_SUSE_LINUX_9.3 I found out, that my 64 bit sane won't work with the binary only libraries from epson. They propose to install 32 bit sane...
I have the ia32 libs installed, but how can I install 32 bit debian packages with (or without...) aptitude ?

It looks like the raw1394 module is no longer included in the newer
Debian kernels. (I don't use the stock kernels, so I don't know for
sure.) You might have to compile your own kernel to have the module
available; its source code is still included in the Debian kernel
sources.
Alternatively you can try to "modprobe firewire-core". This is the
module for the new "Juju" firewire stack; maybe Debian has switched to
that. I don't know if userland tools such as dvgrab work with the new
firewire stack already. According to the kernel documentation,
firewire-core "functionally replaces ieee1394, raw1394, and video1394".

Hello,
Do "Debian" make official packages for scenari ?
http://scenari-platform.org/svn/dev-core/versions/3.4.1/
There are some packages .deb for 32 bits only at:

Thanks.

My login started with the locked screen again recently, and I'm not sure why.
The other login doesn't do that, you can do the CTRL-ALT-F8 to the other
login, and get right to the desktop. When you go from that one to mine (
CTRL-ALT-F7) OR you go away from the monitor for a while, it gets you to a
login screen with these options:
Leave Message- Switch User- Cancel - Unlock
I've never seen this screen on the other login, and they are setup identically
( by me). My screensaver is turned OFF, and it doesn't have a password for
the screensaver.
any clues?

What is the output of `aptitude search "~Gx11::screensaver~i"
gnome-screensaver` ? You may have another screensaver program beyond
your regular one (I'm assuming GNOME) active.

you are correct. And I finally found, under the Debian menu ( that would be
the gnome Apps??) under system -control panel-screensaver. the screensaver
was CHECKED. I unchecked it.
I run KDE, but... I guess some gnome apps are installed and executable.
thanks for the tips. I wonder why it got turned on, when I wasn't running it
before, and all I did was the "normal" aptitude updates...
running Debian Lenny.

I'm not sure about what you're looking for. However I'll suppose
you're asking about how to access the camera memory so you can upload
stuff from the camera's memory to your box...
If the camera is a mass storage compliant device, then there's no much
to do, it's automatically recognized, and you can mount it as any
other mass storage device, like memory keys, etc. Usually they come
under vfat FS, so you can try mounting under vfat... If not, then
maybe gphotofs can come handy. It's kind of a virtual FS through
fuse. I hope it helps...
