K3B will master for a 4.7 GB DVD until you put too much data in the project to fit; at that point it assumes you're making an 8 GB dual- layer DVD. You have to watch the total size display, and take stuff out of the project until it reverts back to 4.7 GB. This caught me by surprise once, too.
