First I would narrow down the bug a little bit more before reporting it like this. For example

  1. uninstall gdm and use startx to start gnome and see if the problem disappears.
  2. Try a more basic/appropriate video driver and see if you experience the same problem.
  3. Instead of gnome, what happens if you use a different desktop environment?
  4. Are there any errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log when X is started via startx method etc.,
