The releases are intended to be that stable, but the snapshots could be in the middle of a major feature addition and may not even compile.

The kernel part is reasonably stable and useful for use with hand-keying. The next release will have a much more useful keying daemon which will make auto-rekeying possible. (Correct me if I'm wrong here Toronto.)
