linux-ipsec: Installation of Freeswan

I'm quite new in Ipsec world. I have following questions:

1. Which version is the latest?
2. Where can I find documents to install it properly? I heard that you had several problems with version 0.9. So, tell me how can I install without much problem.
3. How many network cards do I need with each computer that will acting as routers?
4. I'm imagining a scenario where I 'll have two computers in a subnet acting as routers. I'll initially test to see if packets passsing from one to another router is encrypted or not. Is that OK?

   The next thing I would like to do is:    add two linux machines to those two routers    and send traffic via router from one machne    to the other. Is this OK?
