linux-ipsec: Writing to /dev/ipsec errors

Hello,

I was using freeswan 0.90 with RH 5.2 (Intel). I'm also using masq in this setup. Since then I loaded the Nov30th snapshot, because I couldn't get the tunnel to route traffic.
(I think that was a masq / freeswan config issue).

However, when I

ipsec manual mt route - this works, places a route in the route table ipsec manual mt up - this gives an error

error writing to virtual device /dev/ipsec - maybe installed as a module, etc....

When I recompiled the freeswan snapshot, I applied the patches (make insert), but there didn't appear to be any changes, so I didn't recompile the kernel.
