It looks like a make distclean is needed. After which running make does the following......

make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/freeswan-snap1998Nov30/libdes' ln -f -s ../libdes/libdes.a
cd ../gmp ; ./configure
Configuring for a i586-unknown-linux host. Created "Makefile" in /usr/src/freeswan-snap1998Nov30/gmp using "config/mt-linux"
cd ../gmp ; make
make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/freeswan-snap1998Nov30/gmp' cd mpn; make "CC=gcc -O2" "CFLAGS=-g -O" "XCFLAGS=" libmpn.a make[3]: Entering directory `/usr/src/freeswan-snap1998Nov30/gmp/mpn' gcc -O2 -c -I. -I.. -I. -I./.. -g -O mp_bases.c

etc etc etc.... :-)

Peter.
